Loyola Kapepaladi School, Pannur

Although the Jesuits landed in Pannur in 2002 they did not begin the educational institution in Pannur till 2012. Knowing the need for education they thought elaborately and decided to start the English education. Knowing the background of the people where they used only Kannada or any other local dialect, to start an English medium school needed a lot of courage and planning. In the entire area the educational level was almost nil. The government school was running the primary section class where a cow used to sit regularly. The Dalit children used to be given a corner place and the higher caste children used to be given the front row.

By convincing the local parents the Jesuits started an English medium school on a low key with 15 children and a teacher. A lot of publicity was given through loud speaker and visiting the families and convincing the parents that if they have a child with a little English he /she would get lot of opportunities within and outside Karnataka. These children were given good uniform. Seeing the smart dress of these children a few more joined the school and slowly more students joined the school. They were taken in the van up and down. This being only English medium school in the surroundings it had an attraction A regular bus was kept plying bringing children form different villages and taking them back home. Looking at these smart children the other children found is attractive and inviting the parents started responding to the call.

This school was being run by sisters of St Joseph of Tarbes under the management of the Jesuits. Sr Ida was the first headmistress of the school. Fr Eric Mathias the Manager gave her full support guidance and freedom. Starting form class one by the time they reached class five the number had gone more than 250. At present with 8th standard the number is around 400 with Fr Don Prem Lobo as Director, Sr. Philomena the headmistress and about 20 teaching and non-teaching staff. The children are given very good foundation in English and they are expected to speak in English in the campus. Several of them can give a speech or act out plays in English effectively. The school has made a name in Manvi taluk, both in academics, culture and sports activities. It’s a great sight to see these children speaking English confidently.

One of the main intentions the Jesuits have in giving English education for the children is to prepare them to compete with other schools of English medium and prepare them for state and national exams like KAS, IPS and IAS so that they can get very good jobs at the state and national levels in the government. One of the most important items with the Jesuits had to foresee at the start was the purchase of was a piece of ground and a good school building.

Towards this they managed to get a generous benefactor in Mrs Dinah Findlay from England. She was very much interested with the programme and wanted to sponsor the whole programme. With the help of many friends from her side she collected the necessary financial help and helped the Jesuits to get the land and build a decent school building with a capacity of 400 students. Because of her personal interest along with her family in this great project the school has been named after the family taking letter of the names of each members of the Findlay family, namely KAPEPALADI School.

Though it looks an ambitious programme there is a great possibility that these children will take up the challenge and get into responsible offices and jobs in the government at the state and national level. There is a great attraction for this school today. These children after finishing eighth standard will be absorbed in Xavier or Loyola school Manvi, or any other Standard English medium school.

ST JOSEPH’S PU COLLEGE BENGALURU – 5

St. Joseph's Pre-University College was founded in 1882 by French Foreign Missionary Fathers to offer a liberal education for the boys of European and Anglo-Indian families. After India's independence, admission was extended in the 1950s and 1960s to include male students irrespective of race, religion or caste. In 1937, the management of the College was handed over to the Jesuits of Karnataka Province.

St Joseph’s Pre University College became an independent institution in 2001after the bifurcation of Pre University course from the graduate course as decided by the Government of Karnataka.

Success in St Joseph’s is not defined just in terms of academic excellence, but in directing its educational efforts to make future leaders, with a holistic combination of intellectual prowess. While we do not compromise on academics, we aim at forming students with social concern, conscience, compassion and personal and moral values. Down the years, Josephites have made our institution and our nation proud. Our students have contributed positively to the society at large.

Xavier School, Manvi

The district of Raichur is the most backward region of Hyderabad Karnataka economically, socially and educationally. It is a matter of great concern to know that the progress of education is at low ebb in several talukas of the district. In Manvi taluka there are government and semi government and private institutions at the service of the people; and among these Loyola institutions, we may assert, are taking a Lion share. This institution has liberated a large number of children in the rural and backward areas from the jaws of child labor and has brought them in to the main stream by imparting them quality education. During the last twelve years Xavier school has spent itself in educating several thousands of poor backward and dalith children with a preferential option for the girl who is considered by the society as a liability. Our institutions want to bring less privileged   children on a par with the children of the city and compete with them for higher job opportunities.

  Knowing  the  various  handicaps  these  children  go through , Loyola  institutions  started  the Xavier school  with Central Board  syllabus (CBSE ).  Today Xavier school has completed successfully its 12th year. Hundreds of  students have  passed out of the  portals  of this  school in flying  colors ,  having  gone through  a memorable  experience under dedicated  teachers . Several students from poor families are doing their medical and engineering courses. Some have already started working as Doctors and engineers;
Xavier school feels proud to see the smile of fulfillment in several families. These children have brought 100% results in 10th STD over the years. They have found here a good study atmosphere, efficient and dedicated teaching staff, well-furnished buildings, spacious grounds, well equipped labs and library, healthy environment and opportunities for creativity.
Thanking you

Loyola composite pu college, Bangalore

Loyola composite pu college BANNERGHATTA ROAD BANGALORE  was started in 2008, mainly to cater to the educational needs of the agricultural community around villages. Loyola pu college has around 65 percent girl students. They find safe and suitable place for their education, past few years we have 80 percent migrant students from north Karnataka and neighboring states. Loyola always done well in sports. Loyola scored 99 percent results in the year 2018- 19.

LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL, BANGALORE

BANGALORE JESUIT EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY runs many educational institutions. Loyola high School is one of them. The birth of LOYOLA SCHOOL in 1982 (at Mt. St. Joseph, Kalena Agrahara village) was a result of BJES’ policy of option for the poor. This is the first fully Kannada Medium School run by the BJES in a rural area.  It had a humble beginning. It was started in a shed near Kalena Agrahara – to serve the need of so many villages in this vast area just outside the city in Bangalore South where there was no high school in a radius of more than 10 kms. We didn’t start a Primary School because there were 03 Higher Primary schools in neighbouring villages.

(Fr Alexis Menezes, the then Rector of  Mt. St. Joseph, has left behind a manuscript in which he writes thus “The decision to open the School was taken at the Province Sammelan of May 1982.  The permission to open a High School at Mt. St. Joseph was announced by the Govt in its gazette notification of July 7, 1982. In the application the name of the school was proposed as Mt St Joseph high School, but soon after the school started, it was realised that for the students as well as the people of the area MSJ was a mouthful, too difficult to utter. A proposal was therefore made to the Department to change the name to Loyola high school. The proposal was approved and hence all documents pertaining to the school are under this name...... The 17 students who were admitted were....pulled out from their homes to have a sizable group to start with........The school began functioning from July 12, 1983..... besides special fee no other fees was charged”)

EXPANSION
Kannada medium Primary School: Since serving the poor was the priority, the school did not even think of introducing uniform to children. The poor deserve the best- so a beautiful building was constructed for the school in 1984.  Soon the Jesuits discovered that the really poor did not come to our High School because they were not in a position to complete even the Primary School. Even from our own village of Kalena Agrahara very few reached the high school stage because quality education was not imparted in existing Primary schools around.  Hence the Jesuits felt the need to start their own Primary school. Accordingly the Primary School was started in 1989.

English medium Primary 6th and 7th Std: In 2012 , 2013

English medium High school 8th, 9th & 10th: In 2014, 2015, 2016
PU College: In 2008

Degree College: In 2017

Presently, all the above units except Kannada medium Primary school, are functioning in one building, under one roof.

Loyola, Mundgod

Loyola educational institutions were started in Mundgod in the year 1991 with a desire of educating the socially, economically poor people of this remote Taluka. Loyola higher primary school began in 1991 with mere 34 students in LVK campus. In 1992 the whole school was shifted to the present campus, in Karaginakoppa village. Later in 1994 High school section was started. In the year 2003, the school was upgraded to composite PU College. From its origin, the school has been providing quality education with residential facility to the deserving students.

Today this Kannada medium school is thriving with a student strength of 900. The school takes immense pleasure in the fact that many of its students are doing well in different professions, who otherwise would not have remained illiterate.

Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya (CBSE), provides quality Jesuit Education to the rural children of Mundgod Taluk. It has been serving this region for 5 years and has achieved several milestones from the time of its inception. The Jesuit vision of education goes far beyond the achievement of academic excellence. It includes a radical change of heart in the person of the educated and the educator himself, turning them from selfish concerns to unreserved generosity to God and their fellowmen. Our education in LKV is therefore aimed at this inner liberation of spirit, which renders a person available for even greater service, makes him/her truly free, mature and capable of assuming whatever responsibility he/she is called to.
